User Guide: Closing Line Value (CLV) Tracker
Welcome to the Closing Line Value (CLV) Tracker! This tool helps you analyze and track the value of your sports bets by comparing the odds you took to the closing odds. Below is a step-by-step guide to get you started.
Getting Started
- Interface Overview: The tool features an input form, a bet history table, and a CLV trend chart.
How to Use the CLV Tracker
1. Adding a New Bet
- Fill in the Details:
- Bet Name (Optional): Enter a name for your bet (e.g., “Lakers vs. Celtics”) to identify it easily.
- Date (Optional): Select a date for the bet using the calendar picker (e.g., 09/08/2025).
- Initial Odds (American): Input the odds you bet on (e.g., -110 for a favorite or +150 for an underdog).
- Closing Odds (American): Enter the final odds at the time the market closed (e.g., -120).
- Stake ($): Add the amount you wagered (e.g., 100).
- Submit the Bet: Click the “Add Bet” button (green) to save your entry. All fields except Bet Name and Date are required, and the stake must be greater than zero.
- Clear Inputs: After adding, the form will reset automatically.
2. Understanding CLV
- Calculation: CLV is calculated as ((Closing Implied Probability – Initial Implied Probability) / Initial Implied Probability * 100). A positive percentage means you got better value than the closing line, while a negative percentage indicates the market valued the outcome higher at close.
- Example: Betting at -115 (53.49% implied) that moves to -150 (60% implied) gives a CLV of +12.20%, a great value.
- Interpretation:
- Green Text: Positive CLV (e.g., +12.20%) indicates you beat the market.
- Red Text: Negative CLV (e.g., -14.63%) suggests the market adjusted against your initial odds.
3. Viewing Bet History
- Table Display: The “Bet History” table lists all entered bets with columns for Bet Name, Date, Initial Odds, Closing Odds, Stake, and CLV (%).
- Average CLV: Below the table, see the average CLV across all bets, colored green for positive or red for negative.
4. Analyzing CLV Trends
- Chart: The “CLV Trend” section shows a line graph plotting CLV percentages over time or bet number. Use this to spot patterns in your betting performance.
- Customization: The chart updates automatically as you add bets.
5. Managing Data
- Clear All Data: Click the “Clear All Data” button (red) to delete all saved bets. A confirmation prompt will appear to prevent accidental deletion.
- Persistence: Bet data is saved in your browser using local storage and persists across sessions unless cleared.
Tips for Best Results
- Accurate Odds: Use precise initial and closing odds from reliable sources (e.g., sharp books like Pinnacle) to ensure accurate CLV.
- Regular Updates: Add bets promptly after placing them and update with closing odds to track real-time value.
- Review Trends: Check the chart periodically to assess if your betting strategy consistently beats the closing line.
Troubleshooting
- Missing Data: Ensure all required fields (Initial Odds, Closing Odds, Stake) are filled and valid before adding a bet.
